2 Cahokia Mounds “cleansing” archeological dig. 3007 E 24th St, Granite City. 9am-3pm. We are “cleansing” the site of ALL metal in a 1-acre area so that a remote sensing survey can be done. Part of this site has a collapsed barn. All finds will be photographed. Site director will give permission on what finds can be kept. NO INDIAN FINDS CAN BE KEPT. Registration required, either at the May meeting or by club email.

5 Gateway Club meeting. 7 pm. Presentation will be “How to Protect Yourself While Detecting Using Your Tools or Body”. It will be given by John Westermayer and others. This presentation got quite lively last year and we were shown some quite good moves, including using leverage to shove someone away from you, side knee kicks, using your detector to deflect an assailant, and using your digger as a weapon. It will also stress situational and perimeter awareness.

RAINOUT ONLY–BBQ would be held at Susannah Kriegshauser’s house, 3505 Sunland Garden Ct., St. Louis, MO 63129. An email would be sent the night before if conditions look threatening.
The club will provide the hotdogs and hamburgers, buns, condiments, plates, and utensils. The club will provide water—you will need to provide any other drinks you want. Please bring a side dish or dessert–whatever you signed up for.
Bring your pinpointer and a hand digger, but no shovels, since this is a county park and no digging is allowed. We are playing “Toss the Digger”, “Pinpointer Pennies” and “Trivia” for prizes.
One lucky person’s name will be picked from all those who have volunteered their time, been on the Community Assistance Team list, written articles for the newsletter, given us a viable hunt site, taken a class, or given a presentation at a meeting. They will win a Bounty Hunter metal detector.
