COVID-19 and detecting classes update:
During this COVID-19 crisis, we are offering the classroom part of the Basic Metal Detecting class as a multi-part email course. Each section concludes with a practice section that you can do at home.
If you wish to take the class, or if you have any questions, please email Susannah at detecting history.com for further details.
Interested in the hobby, but don’t know how to get started? Don’t have a detector, but want to know if this is the hobby for you? Been detecting for a while, and just want to pick up some additional tips? We’ve got a class for you!
Susannah, a professional detectorist, will walk you through the steps of getting started in this wonderful hobby. She has hunted in both the United States and England, where among other things she found a previously-unknown Bronze Age smelting site, and has been researching and practicing metal detecting since 1980. She has given metal detecting basics classes for years for the St. Louis County library system, the Jefferson County library system, the Missouri Civil War Museum, and the Gateway Metal Detecting Club.
In her Metal Detecting Basics class you will learn technique and tips, equipment, safety, laws and regulations, how to research, where to hunt, resources, and much more.
Come join us for a fun and informative time!
