Found by Rob W.: “First silver  with my new Teknetics T2. Found at 5 inches.”

Found by Susannah K.: “It’s going to be a good year! Found this on my second hunt. Looks to be silver but no marking. I will test it shortly. Top wreath end with three roses, plus the little bird, were found hooked together but fell apart when I cleaned them. Other piece was found beside them and turned out to be the bottom pendant piece. Don’t know what kind of stone. All very delicate. Found 4-5 inches down with XP Deus on Full Tone setting” [Update–Silver tested as 800 and stone was jade.]

Found by Susannah K: “First hunt of the year, and as you can see by the ice, a darn cold one. Found $1.45 clad, one earring, and one Disney inscribed pendant. Two of the quarters were an aboveground coin spill, thank goodness, right on either side of someone’s footprint. All found 1 – 1-1/2 frozen inches down with XP Deus, Trash setting.”

Found by Pat R.:  Cub Scout Jamboree pin? Cub Scouts have different neckerchief slides for grades 1-5. Three down, two to go! Found with an AT Pro at 2-3 inches depth.

Found by Ron P.: “I finally found my first 925 silver ring after 9 months of detecting! [Congrats, Ron!–ed.] It has mother of pearl inlays and appears to be a man’s ring. It was 3 to 4 inches deep and was found using my AT Pro.”

Found by Ron P.:  “Based on my research, the best guess is this was some type of horse tack, perhaps from a saddle used by the St. Louis Metropolitan Mounted Police sometime between 1867 and 1923. The item is brass with blue and white enamel along with gold gilding around the edges and on the center seal. It weighs 4 ounces and the sides are a bit over 4″ each. This was found at a depth of 4″ to 5″ using my AT Pro.”

Found by Lee N.:  “Found this item, at a 1790 home site. Found 6 inches deep, with my Ace 250. Confirmed to be 150-250 years old, by Mr. Mark Trout, Director of the Civil War Museum. The oldest object I have ever dug. The razor is so fragile that it broke in half, when I lifted it out of the hole. “

Found by Ron P.: “Here is a photo (1) of a vintage brass and enamel Chevrolet radiator emblem that I detected at about 5″ using my AT Pro. I researched the item (2) and found that this was the font and style used by Chevy from 1914 to 1933.”

Found by Bill S.: “Morning hunt resulted in a piece of a crotal bell. Found at 5″ using a White’s MX Sport. Too bad it’s just a piece but that’s how it goes sometime. “

Found by Bill S.: “Found a couple of fired 9mm wadcutter bullets. A wadcutter is a special-purpose flat-fronted bullet specially designed for shooting paper targets, usually at close range at subsonic velocities typically under 900 ft/sec. Wadcutters are also typically used in revolver handguns. Found with a loaner White’s MX Sport at approx. 4 inches.”

Two Chuckie Cheese tokens found in one hole on one hunt, and a coin spill (4 quarters, 2 dimes, a nickel, and 4 pennies), boiler plate cover, and key found on the other hunt. Makes for short hunts when all of your finds are ready for you in one hole! Found with my XP Deus using the Deus Fast program, at 7 inches.”

Found by Lee N.: “Tom R. and I went out for a couple of hours today. Hot with soft digging, from the rain. I found 1947-D wheatie, 83 cents clad, part of toy gun, 19th century door jamb latch, stainless steel spoon and unidentifiable rusty objects. Items found 2-4 inches deep, with Ace 250.”

Found by Matt H. : “1883 Seated Dime found 6-16-17 in a StL park with my Minelab CTX3030 just 3 inches down

The token was found 6-13-17 in Mount Vernon IL with my Minelab CTX3030 6 inches down. The front reads: Medal, The Excelsior Shoe For Boys, July 1910. The reverse reads: Good Luck, Manufactured by the Excelsior Shoe Co, Portsmouth O(hio). Excelsior Shoe Company designed shoes for the Boy Scouts (which was formed in the US the same year) and used the tokens as advertising. Prior to Nazi Germany, swastikas were a good luck symbol.”

Rick C. : “Found a car, truck, a token from 1991 Namco Entertainment with Pac Man on it, a key, and $1.70 in clad coins using an AT PRO at 2-4 inches.”

Found by John W. : “I found these items in a small front yard using my Ace 400. Most of the items were 4 to 6 inches deep. The items included pennies from 1918 to 1957, a 1939 mercury dime and a 1963 dog tax tag.”

MYSTERY HUNT: Rick C. : Massive key and key ring. Pinpointer is about 9 inches for scale. [Given where the keyring was found, and the key size, this is possibly the key to the front church doors. Church was built in 1850–ed.]

MYSTERY HUNT: Pat R. : Whatever it is, it’s old! Looks like a French coin or token. Writing on one side has an “S” and some other letters. Pictures sent to the director at Fort de Chartres for possible identification.  [Identified by the museum as a 6 denier French Louis XIV coin, 1711-1712]

MYSTERY HUNT: Pam P. : Indian head penny, 1892. We had a nice time.

MYSTERY HUNT: Ed H. : I got 1/2 a horse shoe, some nails, bits of iron and some aluminum and a tiny button. The button was in the hole I was digging, and a find is a find.

MYSTERY HUNT: Jim H. : Thought this thing was a 4″ shovel head, maybe for ashes, since at first the surface was completely smooth, gray-brown, and showed no markings whatsoever. Decided to soak it and get any crud off. Look what appeared! Don’t know what it is. Has designs made from swastikas. [Swastikas have been used for thousands of years. From the late 1800s to the 1920s, they gained popularity as good luck symbols. The stylized four-leaf design in the center behind the swastika designates a four-leaf clover. That would date this to between 1870s-1920s.–ed.] Maybe a grave marker? It has a flange near the handle, which is why it looked like a shovel.

MYSTERY HUNT: Bill S. : Not much but had a great time. 7mm fired rifle bullet, 1895-1902 UMC shotgun headstamp, modern coins and our favorite, (pull tabs). Thanks for the awesome permission. (can slaw & rusty nails not shown). =^)

MYSTERY HUNT: Tom R. : Thought this was trash until I cleaned it up, but I still don’t know what it is. Great hunt, weather was very nice. A lot of laughs. Also 3 cents, brass gutter hanger, scissors, nails, large washer and trash.

MYSTERY HUNT: Mike I. :  4 pennies, 4 dimes, 5 quarters, a buckle, a button, a bean back cufflink, [Bean-back cufflinks were primarily used from 1910 to late 1930s. From the stylized design, which looks to be a type called “Streamline Moderne”, this cufflink could possibly be dated around the mid-1930s–ed.] and a small ring, kid-size. Had fun today with everyone today.  Looking forward to the next time. 

Found by Jim H.:   Silver and gold! Both found within 3 days of each other near the same spot. Silver heart ring and 18K gold-plated Park Lane women’s ring. Found 6 inches deep with Fisher F-22.

Mike I.: Found this before the rain came at an old house in Arnold.  1867 Indian head penny that is very worn. Found with Garrett AT Pro at 4” deep.

Found by Tom R.: “Went  metal detecting with Lee and found 34 cents, earring, nice case pocket knife, old brass plug, washer, battery cable end, large stainless screw and the normal stuff with AT Pro two thru eight inches.”

Found by Lee N.: “I went out solo for a hunt after Easter lunch.  I found a tent stake, pair of scissors, spoon(marked All American Stainless) and clad 3-4 inches deep.  I found a very rare and very illegal stiletto knife 8 inches deep.  The stiletto was not suppose to be found.  All found with my Garrett 250 and pin pointer.”

Found by Howard and Kathy H.: Most valuable items (?) were a 1996 dime, a 20XX nickel (date partially dissolved), a 2016 Bic lighter, 2016 pen (modern artifacts).  

Lee N. , Tom R. and Marvin went out for a hunt in South City today, 4-9-17.  “We found a lot of clad.  Lee N. found a 1925 plain wheat penny, key, clip and unknown iron object 4 inches deep, using Garrett 250.”
